Common Council members to meet with Medical Examiner on Williams investigation
The Common Council members intend to relay their constituents’ concerns to the Medical Examiner
In their ongoing efforts to provide clarity and transparency about the investigation into the tragic death of Derek Williams in Milwaukee Police custody, Alderman Willie L. Hines, Jr., Alderwoman Milele A. Coggs, Alderman Willie C. Wade and Alderman Ashanti Hamilton will meet with the Milwaukee County Medical Examiner on Friday, September 28, 2012.
“We appreciate the Medical Examiner taking the time to meet with us about this very serious issue,” President Hines said. “Our constituents have legitimate concerns about how the M.E.’s office can find a death is the result of ‘natural causes,’ and then later rule it a homicide. We hope Dr. Peterson can provide some insight into what happened and what may have gone wrong.”
The Common Council members intend to relay their constituents’ concerns to the Medical Examiner, Dr. Brian L. Peterson, as well as pose some questions to him. Earlier this week, this same group of Common Council members met with the District Attorney about the matter, and they signed a letter urging the U.S. Attorney for the Milwaukee district to launch an independent investigation.
