Wisconsin Republicans Perform Disappearing Act Ahead Of Donald Trump’s Green Bay Rally

MADISON – This Friday, Donald Trump and Gov. Mike Pence visit Green Bay in what will be The Donald’s first visit to Wisconsin since becoming the GOP nominee. If Trump was looking-forward to a warm welcome by Wisconsin Republicans he’ll be let down mightily once he steps foot in the Badger State. Wisconsin’s Republican leaders Gov. Scott Walker, Sen. Ron Johnson, and state Sen. Scott Fitzgerald will all be skipping Friday’s event.

The event comes on the heels of Trump’s disastrous start to the week. In just 48-hours, Trump managed to insult a gold star family, accept a Purple Heart from a Veteran saying “I always wanted to get the Purple Heart this was much easier”, refer to Sec. Hillary Clinton as “the devil”, and suggest the November election will be “rigged.”

In a stunning, unprecedented display of division within the Republican Party, Trump also refused to endorse House Speaker Paul Ryan in his fall primary election slated for next Tuesday, only to have his running mate Mike Pence endorse him just hours later.

“Wisconsin voters know that Donald Trump doesn’t represent the shared values of the hard-working people of our state” Democratic Party of Wisconsin Chair Martha Laning said on Wednesday. “As Trump continues to spew hateful, divisive language on the campaign trail and offers ludicrous proposals that will cost American jobs and ban law-abiding citizens from our country, it’s not surprising that Republican leaders are running for the hills to distance themselves. My only question is when will they publicly pull back their endorsement of him.  Real leaders stand up for their values and let the public know that they cannot endorse or support a con like Donald Trump.”
