Milwaukee Bucks Announce Labor Agreement Between Mortenson Construction and Local Unions for New Arena
The agreement outlines the “rules of engagement” for all arena construction employees and their craftspeople throughout the expected two-year term of construction.
The Milwaukee Bucks today announced the completion of a project labor agreement (PLA) between Mortenson Construction and local trade and union organizations governing the construction of the new multi-purpose arena in downtown Milwaukee. The agreement outlines the “rules of engagement” for all arena construction employees and their craftspeople throughout the expected two-year term of construction.
“The Bucks are proud to enlist local labor organizations to ensure that this historic project is built safely and efficiently by an incredibly skilled local workforce,” Bucks President Peter Feigin said. “This agreement is another important step forward in creating this world-class facility that will be a lasting symbol for the city and state, and an engine for economic growth throughout the region.”
The PLA for the new downtown arena includes provisions for a peaceful dispute resolution process that prohibits strikes, lockouts or other actions disruptive to the construction process. The agreement also outlines inclusion plan goals for all parties and addresses nondiscrimination and diversity policies for the jobsite. Language promoting the “Helmets to Hardhats” veteran employment program is included, ensuring that it remains an available labor resource throughout the construction process, and a prevailing wage is guaranteed for all workers.
The new arena is the centerpiece of an ambitious development project spearheaded by Bucks ownership to transform 27-acres of mostly vacant property into a vibrant retail and entertainment district in the heart of downtown Milwaukee. Scheduled to open in fall of 2018, the 714,000 square foot arena will be home to Milwaukee Bucks basketball and countless sports and entertainment events. The new arena was designed by Populous, Eppstein Uhen and HNTB, with Mortenson Construction tabbed to lead the construction of the project. For more information, visit www.wisconsinesc.com.

I am sure glad we are getting a new arena for the Bucks, and keeping them there.
But man is this an ugly design!!! Do the architects realize we live in Wisconsin, and there is going to be snow on the roof?
Also, I don’t understand the reason for a PLA! A PLA is an obvious form of discrimination against those companies who are non-union and merit shop.
