27th Street intersections project in Milwaukee to begin
Improves freight mobility for heavy vehicles accessing Port of Milwaukee
On Monday, May 16, the Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) is scheduled to begin a project to improve the following intersections in the city of Milwaukee, Milwaukee County.
- WIS 241 (S. 27th Street) and County Y (W. Layton Ave.)
- WIS 241 (S. 27th Street) and W. Grange Ave.
This project will make improvements to accommodate oversize and overweight (OSOW) loads traveling to and from the Port of Milwaukee.
Improvements will modify the medians to allow OSOW vehicles better turning movements to and from S. 27th Street. Consequently, curb and gutter and storm sewer will be modified while signage, traffic signals and street lighting will be moved.
Daytime, short-term lane closures will take place during off-peak hours. Closures will not occur at both intersections at the same time.
The contractor, J & A Pohl, Inc., is planning on completing the $152,000 project later this spring. The schedule of work is weather dependent and subject to change.
