Two Mystery Restaurants Opening

Pastiche Bistro is moving to Hotel Metro.

This restaurant is set to open in July in the Third Ward and its menu will feature modern takes on classic Chinese American cuisine. But there is one little surprise from owners Dan Van Rite and Dan Jacobs. There will be a second restaurant within the location at 360 E. Erie St. A name has not been chosen for the second restaurant. The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel’s Carol Deptolla reports:

“The restaurant-within-a-restaurant will be a private room that can hold 20 diners and serve a tasting menu Thursday through Saturday.

It will be like a dinner party, Jacobs said, with one seating a night and a menu that’s not Chinese. That second restaurant will be the chefs’ “outlet to explore creative avenues,” he said.”

Pastiche Bistro

As of September 1st, this French bistro in Bav View will settle into its new location in Hotel Metro at 411 E. Mason St. While there will still be a Parisian feel, the menu will be updated for the downtown restaurant.  Deptolla asked Pastiche founder Michael Engel for the details:

“The [Hotel Metro] dining room will be redecorated, he said, and the kitchen also will be updated. He’s hoping the restaurant will be restored to resemble its appearance in 1998.

Pastiche not only will operate the restaurant, which is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner to serve hotel guests, but also prepare the food for weddings and other banquets and for Zen on Seven, the rooftop deck and event space.”

The New Andrew’s. Not.

Once named Andrew’s Bar & Restaurant, the restaurant located inside The Delafield Hotel at 415 Genesee St. in Delafield, will reopen May 4th under a new name, not yet chosen. The reopening of the restaurant is part of a much larger strategy of revival for the space. The Milwaukee Business Journal‘s Melanie Lawder reports:

“Rob Gerbitz, Hendricks Commercial president and CEO, said it was clear to the company that the dining spot needed a refreshing when it was purchased last summer. Andrew’s Bar & Restaurant served high-end American fare, but a reset was needed, he said.

Andrew’s executive chef, Jonna Froelich, has remained on with the restaurant, but the menu has completely changed and is now small plate-driven.”

Mobcraft

This Madison-based brewing company is opening a new location in Walker’s Point. While still renovating the warehouse space they are leasing at 505 S. 5th St., Mobcraft hopes to open the new 14,000 square foot space sometime in late June — or later. Along with various types of beer being brewed on sight, there will also a taproom, beer garden and a kitchen with a wood fire pizza oven. OnMilwaukee’s Mike Morgan offers more details: 

“The facility will include a specialty sour beer room to ferment and oak barrel age through an increasingly popular brewing style that has roots back to 19th century Belgium. Many of today’s beer connoisseurs actually enjoy the sour, acidic and tart flavors.

Mobcraft CEO Henry Schwartz appreciates Milwaukee’s brewing heritage as part of his young company’s future. ‘This was actually the first location that we looked at in Milwaukee,’ Schwartz said, ‘but it is a good one and is easy to build there. We really like the hustle and bustle of the Walker’s Point neighborhood and the proximity of all the great breweries, distilleries and restaurants in our neighborhood.’ When excavating for the project, they even found some early 1900’s era beer bottles that may have a historic significance.”

Pete’s Fruit Market

This locally owned and operated market announced plans for a second location, back in early April, as Urban Milwaukee reported. Owner Theodore Tsitiridis decided on a location in the Bronzeville Neighborhood at the northwest corner of King Drive and North Avenue. The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel’s Tom Daykin offered more details:

“Despite the ‘fruit market’ name, the Pete’s store at 1400 S. Union St. includes other items, such as fresh vegetables, fresh meat, dairy products, nonperishable foods and a deli. The King Drive store will be a similar full-service grocery.

The announcement comes after years of delays in bringing a supermarket to the space left vacant when Walgreens moved to a new store at 2826 N. King Drive.”
