There it was on page two of yesterday’s Milwaukee Journal Sentinel sports section: A standalone graphic showing a basketball court design the Bucks plan to use next season at the BMO Harris Bradley Center.

Just four times.

Yes – that’s correct: The team plans to use the floor on four occasions during the season – a season that will include approximately 40 home games at the BMOHBC!

I realize that it’s the team’s money, but are the Bucks frivolously spending because they got their gift from the city?

What rationale supports the thought process for constructing an “alternate floor” (and alternate jerseys!) that will be used for just four games?

How much will the “alternate floor” cost? My guess is that we’re talking somewhere between $200,000 and $350,000.

Where will the floor be stored when not in use?

Are they trying to be unique in the NBA, and do we really need a special “alternate floor?” Who is watching their spending?

Is the team’s spending going to get a free pass (as it apparently already is in the media)?

My point here is that I am watching and I am paying attention to what the Bucks are doing, and I strongly encourage my colleagues to do so as well.

The bottom line is that the Bucks still must be held accountable because of the generous gift coming from the City of Milwaukee and its citizens.

  1. Ryan says:

Says the crook fleecing the county and city for two pensions and was tied to the pension scandal. Lovely guy we have here, just looking out for the taxpayer, except when he can get more money in his own pocket!

  2. Money Pincher says:

Let’s start analyzing all of their moves while we’re at it. I bet they only got new players, because of the subsidy! The same can probably be said for their office staff! With the amount we’re giving them, they should have Lasry and Edens answering the phones!

Seriously though, the 4 games are marquee games and will be sellouts. The price of the floor will probably be offset by additional ticket prices + sales of these special alternate jerseys. Additionally, they will likely use this floor for more than one season and it is a good idea to have a backup floor available anyway. One year (last?) they had an issue with a floor and had to use their old floor for a while.

Let’s pull back the dogs a bit.

  3. Nicholas says:

    uhh

    What?

  4. Bruce says:

Well Mark. What about Northwestern Mutual sponsoring NCAA events? Is that just frivolous spending of money after accepting the generous TIF gift from the City of Milwaukee taxpayers ?

  5. GT says:

Right out of the gates, what a jag.

  6. James says:

Really Mark? Let’s get real. Stop reaching.

  7. Jeff says:

I agree with Alderman Borkowski here. It’s like co-signing for a loan (The City) and your creditor (The Bucks) immediately runs out and buys an 80″ flat screen TV. Mark is rightly looking out for the taxpayer and I applaud him! -Jeff

  8. mbradleyc says:

This is Marketing 101, give people a reason to buy your product. Anything the Bucks can do to get butts in the seats is justified. This is a terrific idea and unique. Ir is improving the fan experience while also making the games more fun for the players.

  9. Gary says:

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again since this proves it: they could’ve put a temp. floor down in Miller Park and put on all their future shows there with the roof closed – just like a dance or ballet company does it.

  10. Nicholas says:

How is he looking out for the taxpayer? The city did not subsidize the Bucks operation budget, they are building a parking structure and have a TIF district for the new arena. Whats next hes going to be upset about throwback unis?

  11. Kyle says:

    http://espn.go.com/nba/story/_/id/13797227/milwaukee-bucks-use-alternate-basketball-court-jersey-four-games

“The alternate court, which the team will lease at an undisclosed price, features mostly black trim with dark green and a stylized “M” in green at center court.”

    THE COURT IS BEING LEASED.

    GREAT JOB IDIOT.
