Rep. Riemer Statement on the passage of the 2015-2017 State Budge
“The people of Wisconsin deserve a budget that puts Wisconsin kids and families first.”
MADISON – State Representative Daniel Riemer (D—Milwaukee) released the following statement on the passage by the state Assembly and his vote against the 2015-2017 state budget:
“During the prolonged budget debate this year, I spent time going door-to-door to hear from my constituents. The state budget, as it was proposed by Governor Walker and the legislative Republicans, brought out concerns about cuts to the UW system and higher education, K-12 education, and long-term care. The hard-working families I represent in Milwaukee, West Allis, West Milwaukee, and Greenfield, along with those across the state, cried out for their government to make the right investments in jobs, the middle class, and growth in this state.
“While legislative Republicans have shortchanged us solely to help Scott Walker’s misguided campaign for the Republican nomination, Democrats have continued to stand up for the people of Wisconsin and the values we’ve held dear for generations: quality public education, a world-class university system, economic development and quality infrastructure, and improving the livelihoods and quality of life of Wisconsin’s hardworking middle-class families.
“The people of Wisconsin deserve a budget that puts Wisconsin kids and families first. Instead, what Republican legislators have sent to Governor Walker to sign is a budget that puts special interests and his misguided campaign first. Republican cuts and harmful policies threaten to destroy the very programs and institutions that have always made Wisconsin great.”
