Cheers to an artsy new year
Support the Milwaukee arts as your New Year's resolution. Formerly known as On Stage, Milwaukee This Week is your weekly guide to the arts in our fine city.
Theater
The Milwaukee Theatre hosts the touring production of A Chorus Line this weekend. Centered around the lives of 17 dancers hoping to make it big, A Chorus Line is one of the longest running Broadway shows in history and received 12 Tony Awards. Shows are at 7:30 p.m. Fri. Jan. 4 and 8 p.m. Sat. Jan. 5. Tickets are $38 to $68 online or call 800-745-3000.
Milwaukee actors Christopher Elst and Marcy Doherty (recently featured as the parents in A Christmas Story at Sunset Playhouse) are in the midst of forming a new theater company called Theater RED, and invite you to an unrehearsed staging of Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night. For a little switch-up from all the holiday productions and a chance to support a fledgling theater company, drop by Sunset Playhouse on Sat. Jan. 5. Call 262-782-4430 for more information.
Music
The MSO continues its Pops series with Gershwin Favorites: Porgy, Bess & More, performing the best of George Gershwin. Led by conductor Jeff Tyzik and featuring the Milwaukee Symphony Chorus, the concert will spotlight memorable songs from Porgy and Bess including “Summertime” and “I Got Plenty O’ Nuttin.'” Performances are at 8 p.m. Fri. Jan. 4 and Sat. Jan. 5, with a 2:30 matinee Sun. Jan. 6. Tickets are $22 to $102 online or call 414-291-7605.
