Midwest SAD Moving Back Downtown

Hooch MKE won’t be the only bakery in the 770 Building Downtown. Midwest SAD announced it plans to relocate to the lower-level food court, where it first operated in 2024.

After one year of operating her bakery from a larger space at 601 S. 6th St. in Walker’s Point, Midwest SAD owner Sam Sandrin announced Wednesday that the bakery will move back to its original location, 770 N. Jefferson St., and “pause things” in Walker’s Point.

“At the heart of Midwest Sad it was always about making space for others, but it became more about survival and figuring out how to make it all work, instead of actual growth,” Sandrin wrote in the announcement post.

“Things are hard [as f*ck] right now, so we’re hoping this pause is an opportunity to make the changes needed to accomplish what we originally set out to do. We’re so lucky to have supportive humans like you, and we can’t wait to welcome you downtown again,” the announcement continues.

In late 2025, Sandrin went public about financial challenges facing her businesses and others. In early August, she posted about business being “incredibly slow the past couple months.”

The last day of service at the Walker’s Point location will be Thursday, Sept. 24, with hours from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The downtown location will begin service on Saturday, Sept. 26, with hours from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Following Saturday’s downtown relaunch, the bakery will be open from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Friday, and from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.

Midwest SAD specializes in small-batch, handmade bakery items. Its online menu is currently being updated. Sandrin asked supporters to stay tuned for a new fall menu.

Hooch is a vegan bakery that filed this week to move into the building.
