Following a fatal shooting at North 107th Street and North Granville Road, Alderwoman Larresa Taylor pledged to investigate the nearby Bar 107 Sports Bar and Grill, accusing the business of “irresponsibility and a disregard for the public” in a statement released Monday.

The shooting occurred around 1:40 a.m. Sunday, March 16, according to a release from the Milwaukee Police Department. One 33-year-old victim was pronounced dead at the scene, while another 30-year-old victim was transported to the hospital with non-fatal gunshot wounds.

Co-owner Alpesh Patel told Urban Milwaukee on Monday that he was not on-site during the incident, having left the bar, 8775 N. 107th St., around midnight. However, he believes the shooting occurred at a nearby gas station.

“From what I’ve heard, I think it was a crossfire situation,” Patel said, adding that he is working to confirm the details of the incident. “I’m still gathering all the information from my bartenders and security, and am still trying to review the cameras and stuff like that.”

He also mentioned conflicting accounts on social media. “I’m also getting all the information more from social media, but there are people going against the bar, they’re supporting the bar — it’s just, everybody’s posting everything.”

An Instagram video recorded in the moments before the shooting shows patrons in panic and one unconscious on the floor. The poster confirmed in a comment that the video was taken inside Bar 107.

Taylor, who has represented the district since April, 2023, called the bar’s conduct “a tragedy.”

“Businesses should prioritize security and take all necessary measures to ensure the safety of their patrons,” she said in a statement. “Bar 107 has repeatedly failed to meet this basic expectation and we will conduct further investigation to determine the best course of action.”

In 2017, two individuals filed revocation complaints against the business in an attempt to shut it down. However, the City of Milwaukee did not process the complaints because they were undated and submitted by entities—rather than individuals—which is against city policy.

The license for Bar 107 is set to expire in October 2025. A renewal hearing is likely to center on last weekend’s shooting.

MPD noted that its investigation is ongoing.  Anyone with any information is asked to contact Milwaukee Police at (414) 935-7360 or to remain anonymous, contact Crime Stoppers at (414) 224-Tips or P3 Tips.
