Oakberry Acai, a global açaí chain, is set to open its first Wisconsin location in Milwaukee’s Bay View neighborhood.

The health-focused café is slated to open at 2142 S. Kinnickinnic Ave., on the ground floor of the KinetiK apartment building, according to plans submitted to the City of Milwaukee by KSK Architects.

The building has recently become a dining hotspot, following the opening of several new concepts including a taco restaurant, doughnut shop, spring roll bar and Burmese eatery.

Oakberry would occupy the final available retail space at KinetiK, between the newly-opened Mochinut and Ni Burmese. An adjacent storefront is slated to soon house 17th Ward Cocktail Lounge. Other tenants include Paloma, Roll Up, JB Nails & Spa and optometry clinic Eyes on the Lake.

Renderings indicate that the 874-square-foot café will feature Oakberry’s signature minimalist aesthetic, with white walls, painted greenery and its logo, a purple parrot, at the service counter. Floor plans include a seating area, grab-and-go fridge and a small retail section.

Oakberry specializes in bowls and smoothies made with açaí, the antioxidant-rich berry native to the Brazilian Amazon. Customers can choose from a range of flavors and toppings to customize their orders.

Menu highlights include the Original bowl, layered with peanut butter, banana and granola; the Crunchy version swaps in chia pudding and strawberries, along with blueberries and cacao nibs. Smoothies come in flavors like Blue Fairy, featuring blue spirulina, and Super Glow, made with coconut milk and collagen.

Select locations also offer high-protein oatmeal with toppings like goji berries, cacao nibs and more.

Based in Brazil and headquartered in Miami, the brand operates more than 700 stores across five continents, including U.S. locations in California, Florida and New York. Oakberry was founded in 2016 by CEO Georgios Frangulis.

A representative of Oakberry did not respond to a request for comment by the time of publication.
