Carnitas Restaurant Plans Second Location
Carnitas Mi Pueblo is poised for a new restaurant on Milwaukee's Southwest Side.
After launching its first brick-and-mortar in January 2024, Carnitas Mi Pueblo is poised to expand with a second location on Milwaukee’s Southwest Side.
The flagship restaurant, a casual spot offering authentic Mexican cuisine, is located at 831 S. Cesar E. Chavez Dr. Pending city approval, it could soon be joined by a new location, Mi Pueblo Mexican Restaurant & Bar, at 8412 W. Morgan Ave.
Owner Hermogenes Correa Miramontes said the proposed business would open in the same building as Cinco de Mayo Fiesta, which has operated for a decade at the address. Previously, the space was home to La Iguana Loca Mexican restaurant.
Although the restaurants will be neighbors, they’ll each have their own kitchen space, Correa Miramontes confirmed.
Mi Pueblo will feature an expanded menu at its new location, offering a wider selection of entrees and seafood dishes. Its signature shredded pork, along with Mexican staples like tacos, tortas, menudo and more, will remain.
Despite its title, the Mexican restaurant has not requested a liquor license.
The Morgan Avenue building, located in Euclid Park, also houses a laundromat, and was previously home to Last Detail Tattoo Studio. Mi Pueblo will occupy just over 3,000 square feet, according to city records, with space to accommodate up to 142 patrons for dine-in.
Correa Miramontes has not indicated any plans for construction.
A license application for the restaurant is pending before the Milwaukee Common Council. Once approved, Correa Miramontes plans to open as soon as possible.
He said the original location will remain in operation.
As Correa Miramontes grows his brick-and-mortar presence, the restaurateur is looking to part with his mobile operation. The Mi Pueblo taco truck is for sale. The sky-blue vehicle, painted with a smiling pig, is described as a turn-key opportunity.
More information is available online.
Updates on the new restaurant, including an opening date and hours of operation, will be available at a later time.
