Three legislative campaign committees and the state Democratic Party accepted excessive corporate and political action committee contributions in 2020.

State campaign finance law caps PAC and corporate contributions at $12,000 a year to each of the four legislative campaign committees and state parties. A Wisconsin Democracy Campaign review of 2020 campaign finance reports found:

The state Democratic Party accepted $24,000 in corporate contributions from the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) Committee on Political Education in Washington, D.C., and $24,000 in PAC contributions from the Service and Hospitality Workers Union PAC in Milwaukee.

The Republican Assembly Campaign Committee accepted $24,000 in corporate contributions from Molson Coors, formerly known as MillerCoors, and $14,000 from Allstate Insurance in Northbrook, Ill.

The Committee to Elect a Republican Senate accepted $12,500 in corporate contributions from Wisconsin Manufacturers & Commerce (WMC), the state’s largest business group, and $22,000 in corporate contributions from Kapur & Associates, an engineering firm with offices throughout the state.

The Assembly Democratic Campaign Committee accepted $24,000 in corporate contributions from the Milwaukee Area Service and Hospitality Workers Organization.

The Wisconsin Democracy Campaign intends on filing ethics complaints against the committees and party for accepting the excessive contributions.
