Virtual Listening Sessions Scheduled for Police Chief Finalists
Have a question for Milwaukee's next police chief? Now is your time to ask.
The search for Milwaukee’s next chief of police has been narrowed to three candidates, who will appear in a two virtual listening sessions this month
The Fire & Police Commission will host meetings on Saturday, November 7th and Saturday, November 21st from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. The body, which currently has six members following a resignation, expects to select a chief in December.
Meeting participants will be able to ask questions of the finalists.
The finalists are Dallas Police Department Major Malik Aziz, Portland Police Bureau Deputy Chief Chris Davis and FBI Supervisory Special Agent Hoyt Mahaley.
Mahaley is the lone figure with a known local connection. He is a graduate of Milwaukee Public Schools and previously worked for the Milwaukee Police Department.
The three finalists were previously interviewed in closed session by the commission.
Eleven candidates applied by the September 11th deadline after the FPC demoted Chief Alfonso Morales in August. Morales would shortly thereafter retire. He is now suing the city over the matter.
Outgoing FPC executive director Griselda Aldrete resigned on Friday after earlier indicating she would stay on until a replacement was in place.
