. I am from Berlin and I think its the most unreal Fest there is. The food is disgusting and the music is even worse.
NOt only is it about keeping stereotype opinions alive, its so outdated and giving the wrong image of Germany. It mostly tries imitate
southern Germany. “Alte Kameraden” isn’t even played there anymore. And who has ever heard of German plate of Bratwurst, Schnitzel and Sauerkraut combination.
I was born 1940 and grew up with the Modern Jazz Quartet and Berlin is now the center for High Tech Music. Get with it organizers. There is more to Germany and its culture than what you are presenting.
The only reason I go there is because of the Dachshund Derby but I embarrassed about the other things that take place. My money will certainly not go there.

I guess if they wanted to be authentic, they could call it Hipster and Islamic Fest.

It’s a fantastic festival! My favorite of them all. The entire weekend was packed with record crowds of people enjoying themselves. All I heard were people praising the event. 3000 volunteers make German Fest possible, and I thank all of them for all of their hard work. Don’t listen to bitter people like Angela, she has issues. keep up the great work!

  5. Edward Susterich says:

Go to You-Tube and search for “Alte Kameraden”,
Maybe Angela is feeling better today.

I finally made it to Germany this year when I visited Munich and Stuttgart along with a few smaller towns and cities. I love the Bavarian culture and was glad to see much of it alive and well. One thing I noticed when I was in Munich, whenever I talked to someone from Berlin, Frankfurt, or many other regions of Germany was that they all made it a point to tell me that most of Germany did not hold on to their culture the way Bavaria did. They almost seemed embarrassed of the state!

I actually feel as bad for the rest of Germany as I do for the US and how much of the German culture was lost during/after the world wars. They shouldn’t be embarrassed, they should embrace it. (and I did hear Alte Kameraden several times)

  7. Jerry says:

Ditto on Angela. Her negativity is a cancer. I don’t know why she even shows up for German events. Everyone avoids her like the plague.

  8. Peter says:

    Hi Jerry,
even you don’t like Angela, but she is right.
AG you didn’t get it. We arn’t patriotic as Americans and the bavarian tribes are somehow strange…. .
To be straight, you people have a funny view (Disneyland) on us here. May because you don’t have the cultural heritage as we have it.
Germany have a lot more to show. Beautiful Middle Rhine for example.

  9. Jerry says:

So what if German Fest celebrates an “old” Germany of days gone by or isn’t authentic even for Bavaria? This is a GERMAN-AMERICAN celebration. We put our own spin on it; so what’s wrong with that? NOTHING! Tens of thousands of people came to German Fest and had a wonderful time!

So, next year for an “authentic” German Fest we are all going to walk around in shorts and t-shirts that say “California Surfin” dance to techno music, eat Italian pizza with a fork and knife and march with PEGIDA!
