Fashion Show Will Benefit Veterans
Saturday night event sponsored by veterans support group will have live music, art auction and fashion show
Veterans Outreach of Wisconsin (VOW) will hold a fund-raising event — including live music, art auction and fashion show — on February 28th, 2015 from 4-10 p.m. at Live Artists Studio, 228 S. 1st St., Milwaukee. The fashion show will be at 7 p.m.
Admission to the adults-only event is free. There will be a cash bar and free appetizers.
The nonprofit, based in Racine, says on its website that “the thought of someone who has served their country bravely becoming homeless is very troubling to all of us.” VOW says its mission is to “help veterans strive for normalcy in life by helping them furnish their new-found homes while providing additional assistance.”
The group accepts home furnishings and accessories, bedding materials, bathroom necessities, and kitchen utensils and distributes them to veterans’ homes. It also operates a food pantry.
The organizers of the event include Jeff Gustin, director and co-founder of VOW; Cat Hammes, a veterans’ advocate; Neda Stevic, a model, artist and VOW “ambassador;” and attorney Mark Roscoe, a designer and founder of Mark Roscoe Designs of Couture Fashion.
Gustin, along with a friend, Joe Briere, launched VOW a little more than a year ago. “The need was way bigger than we imagined,” says Gustin. “There were vets living without the basic necessities in their homes or apartments.” VOW says it has helped over 300 veterans.
In addition to its website, the group can be reached on Facebook and Twitter, at (262) 221-8350 or at veteransoutreachofwisconsin@gmail.com.
