The Second Time Around
Hue, Cafe India and Thai-namite are all opening a second location for their restaurants.
Call it Milwaukee multiplicity. Restauranteurs this week all seem to be opening a second and even third location of their successful business. Which means more dining options for the metro area.
To begin with the Bay View-based Vietnamese restaurant Hue, owners Mark Nielsen and Cat Tran are opening a new location for Hue in Wauwatosa at 6519 W. North Ave. this week. The size of the new space is double that of Bay View’s and includes a large bar and patio space. The restaurant’s name references a cuisine that originated in the Thua Thien – Hue Province of central Vietnam. Pho, rice and noodle-based dishes comprise much of the original menu, along with a variety of vegetarian options. The new menu will contain additional seafood options, including a fish fry, and more traditional Vietnamese dishes. Hours are Monday to Saturday 11 – 10:00 p.m.
Zesti is a new restaurant scheduled to open early November in Hartland (130 E. Capitol Dr., Suite 300). Chef Michael Feker is owner of both Il Mito East located on Milwaukee’s lower East Side and Il Mito Enoteca in Tosa. Feker’s new venture will deviate from the Greek-Mediterranean-Italian cuisine of Il Mito to incorporate a wider range of culinary traditions like Latin American, French, American and Turkish.
Thai-namite opened it’s second location yesterday in the Milwaukee Public Market space formerly occupied by Sushi-A-Go-Go. As reported by Milwaukee Business Journal, the restaurant is offering promotional spring rolls during lunch over the next month. The Public Market space includes a sushi bar and provides delivery to the surrounding locations.
Earlier this summer we noted the opening of Alderaan Coffee, which occurred last Wednesday. Located in the triangular-shaped space of The Flatiron at 1560 N. Water St., this café provides unique ingredient options made in-house. French lavender, salted vanilla-infused caramel and fresh almond milk are among those coffee drinks noted on the menu. Owners David and Daniel Neumann, who also own Upright Coffee in New York, currently feature coffee from Viroqua-based roaster Kickapoo, Milwaukee’s own Anodyne as well as Brooklyn Roasting Company. The café is open Monday to Friday 6 – 2:00 p.m., Saturday and Sunday 7-3:00 p.m., but hours will be expanded upon within the next couple of weeks.
Now Closing
Suite Nightclub Milwaukee, located at 1103 North Old World 3rd St., closed on Friday, September 26th. The Las Vegas style, DJ-focused nightclub opened its doors back in 2006. Another night life-oriented business will take over this location sometime this year, Suite Nightclub owners have promised.
