TCD’s Milwaukee Film Fest Picks
The 5th annual Milwaukee Film Festival is in full swing, so check out our ever-updating daily guide to what's next on the big screen.
Wednesday, October 2

“Becoming Traviata” focuses on a production of Verdi’s “La Traviata,” about a wayward courtesan and her checkered love affair with a young nobleman.
TCD Pick: Becoming Traviata
Come on, you know we weren’t going to recommend something other than the cool opera movie, right? But we aren’t just recommending Becoming Traviata for its subject matter: director Jean-Francois Sivadier’s naturalistic production of Verdi’s La Traviata. The film’s also a portrait of collaboration at its finest, and a fascinating behind-the-scenes look at an opera company at work. For the especially opera-inclined, though, you can join the Florentine Opera (sponsoring the film) after this screening at the Bay restaurant for a talkback about the film and performances from La Traviata, the Florentine’s upcoming opening production.
Becoming Traviata will screen three times during the film festival: Wednesday, Oct. 2, at 6:45 p.m. at Fox-Bay Cinema; Tuesday, Oct. 8, at 7:45 p.m. at the Oriental Theatre; and Thursday, Oct. 10 at 2:30 p.m. at Fox-Bay Cinema.

Re-screening recommendations: Ludwig II, noon, Oriental; Hannah Arendt, 2 p.m., Fox-Bay Cinema, God Loves Uganda, 2:30 p.m., Fox-Bay Cinema
