TCD Pick: The Milwaukee Show
It’s older than the film festival itself. Why wouldn’t we pick The Milwaukee Show as Thursday’s must-see film? For yet another year, festival organizers have collected a dozen short films from filmmakers across the city, creating a program of films that are stylistically and structurally diverse. This year’s picks include sci-fi mini-thrillers, bedtime stories, stop-motion homages and more.
The Milwaukee Show screens only once: Thursday, Oct. 3, at 7 p.m. at the Oriental Theatre.

Extended Preview: The Girls in the Band
Joining the boy’s club that was the world of jazz musicians in the early-to-mid-20th century was no easy task for female instrumentalists. In The Girls in the Band, that struggle is documented in vivid detail, shining a light on their ultimate achievements. TCD writer/editor Gene Cawley offers a more detailed look at the film’s subject.
