Open Call
The Montello Historic Preservation Society (MHPS) is sponsoring The Hidden History Mural Trail to bring a positive visual message to pedestrians, bicyclists and motorists traveling throughout Marquette County, Wisconsin.
Their goal is to oversee the creation of a mural trail as a positive expression of its communities and to bring people together from the local neighborhoods in the process. Thirty or more murals are projected over the next three years. For year one, they plan eight smaller and three larger murals.
SELECTION PROCESS
This is an open competition. The artists chosen will be Wisconsin residents and will reflect diversity in style, media, ethnicity, age and experience. Professional artists with previous experience creating outdoor murals are preferable, but all may apply unless otherwise indicated on the specific site application.
Selection Criteria. How the artist’s idea fits into the specific goals for a project is always considered when selection a finalist. However, the following general criteria also apply:
- Artistic quality of personal work
- Relationship of a proposed site specific work to its environment
- Media appropriateness for proposed project and site
- Public safety, durability, and accessibility issues of the proposed project
- Maintenance requirements
There is a choice of public sites for artist to respond to; the artist may respond to one or all of the sites. However, a separate proposal is required for each site.
