Can words really summarize the impact Les Paul, who died today at the age of 94, has had on his world?

In 1941, a young tinkerer attached some guitar strings to a hunk of wood and made it sing. Since then:

What have you done with your life?

Les Paul died today? Are you kidding me? The Wizard of Waukesha’s greatest trick was achieving immortality. Les Paul is forever.

I would say him inventing multi-track recording is even bigger than his guitar.

Yeah, but showing a bunch of photos of producers and engineers wouldn’t be as cool.

Well yeah, but the multi-track effects every type of music and sound ever recorded since the late 50s…

What a guy, what a life. Played a weekly gig almost up to the very end. http://www.nytimes.com has a 15 minute video profile that’s worth a view. Discovery World’s Les Paul exhibit is also worth a visit, perhaps best described now as a pilgrimage. RIP, Les, the world is truly a better place thanks to you.
