Working Families Party, Sen. Chris Larson, Rep. Ryan Clancy Statements on Rep. Ryan Clancy’s Primary Win

By - Aug 13th, 2024 09:01 pm

In response to the victory of Representative Ryan Clancy over challenger Jarrod Anderson, Wisconsin Working Families Party State Director Corinne Rosen said:

“Now that we’ve finally un-rigged the legislature from Republican control, it’s more important than ever to build an Assembly that fights for us, not corporate lobbyists. For years, Representative Clancy has been an outspoken advocate for social and economic justice – meanwhile his opponent couldn’t be bothered to vote. From his work to improve the broken justice system to getting healthy school meals for all kids, Rep. Clancy has an admirable record of service. These results prove that voters are hungry for leaders with political courage, and we’re looking forward to working with him to pass bold policies that will improve the lives of people all across our state.”

Senator Chris Larson said:

“Wisconsin needs more fighters now more than ever, and that’s exactly who Democratic State Representative Ryan Clancy is. For years, legislation addressing the issues people care most about has been either flatly ignored or watered down to appease corporate interests. That’s left us with gutted public education funding, a continued refusal to accept $1 billion in federal assistance to expand Medicaid, the highest rate of incarceration for Black men in the country, and a minimum wage that’s been unchanged since 2009. On every single one of these issues, Representative Clancy is fighting for our neighbors and for a better Wisconsin.”

Representative Ryan Clancy said:

“I’ve been a member of the Working Families Party for years, because we agree that Democrats need to go bigger and bolder in the fight for our social and economic freedoms. As Democrats, it’s on us to enact durable solutions that support Wisconsin’s working families — from strengthening our public schools, creating well-paying jobs, and eliminating child hunger to ensuring healthcare, housing, and childcare are more affordable, leading on climate change, and protecting fundamental rights. Now we finally have that chance, and I am excited to be joining forces with the Working Families Party to fight for new bold policies that will expand opportunity for everyone in Wisconsin.”

Together with sister organizations Working Families PAC and Working Families Power, WIWFP organized a large-scale mobilization effort, knocking on over 10,465 doors in Wisconsin’s 19th Assembly district, and contacting over 6,000 additional voters via calls and texts. The groups also sent candidate mailers, drove ad campaigns on social media and assisted with various aspects of campaign strategy. The Party also did significant work to encourage voters to vote no on Issue 1 and Issue 2, knocking on nearly 60,00 doors and sending over 88,00 texts to voters across the state.
