WISN 12 News Honored with Regional Edward R. Murrow Awards
Station receives top honors for newscast and breaking news coverage
MILWAUKEE, WIS. (May 12, 2020) – WISN 12 News has been honored with two regional Edward R. Murrow Awards from the Radio Television Digital News Association (RTDNA). The top honors recognize 2019 efforts for newscast and breaking news.
“We are extremely honored to have earned these very special and prestigious regional Edward R. Murrow Awards for what they symbolize,” says Jan Wade, President and General Manager of WISN 12. “But we are most importantly grateful to the viewers of Southeastern Wisconsin for continuing to depend on 12 News coverage of the important local stories that impact their lives,” added Wade.
WISN 12 was presented with the award for breaking news for coverage of a Milwaukee police officer killed in the line of duty. The award for newscast was presented for the station’s coverage of the Waukesha South High School shooting.
“This year was full of tough, important stories for the Milwaukee area,” says Ben Hart, news director of WISN 12. “We are excited to be recognized as we work to keep deep, fair coverage a priority in this fast-moving news landscape.
The RTDNA presents the awards annually to recognize the best electronic journalism produced by radio, television and online news organizations around the world. The regional Edward R. Murrow commendations qualify stations for consideration for the organization’s national awards which are presented in the fall.
