WisDems Chair Statement on Eric Toney Announcement for Attorney General

By - Oct 21st, 2025 11:44 am

MADISON, Wis. — Today, in response to Eric Toney announcing his candidacy for Attorney General, WisDems Chair Devin Remiker released the following statement:

“Eric Toney is an extremist when it comes to taking personal health care decisions away from women. In 2022, Toney said he would not rule out weaponizing the DOJ to prosecute victims of rape or incest.

“Toney is also a far-right hack who will work for his party to undermine our democracy, most recently inappropriately taking on the role of special prosecutor against Wausau Mayor Doug Diny after previously defending his blatantly illegal theft of voting equipment.

“Eric Toney is adding his name to the growing list of failed, now recycled GOP candidates, making it feel as if 2026 is going to be a battle for the biggest Wisconsin Republican loser. He barely made it through the primaries in 2022, and if he is the GOP nominee in 2026, I have one thing to say to the WisGOP: good luck!”
