OAK CREEK, Wis., (January 23, 2025) – Today, the City of Oak Creek published its agenda, oakcreekwi.gov/PlanCommission, for the upcoming January 28, 2025 Plan Commission meeting, where rezoning for the anticipated opening of Buc-ee’s travel center will be discussed.

The proposed build site, located at the southwest corner of I-94 and Elm Road, will be home to a 73,370 sq. ft. convenience store/fueling plaza and feature 120 gas pumps, including ethanol-free, diesel exhaust fluid (DEF) and EV charging. The store’s anticipated opening in early 2027 will mark a major milestone, as it is expected to be the first Buc-ee’s to be built in the state.

“We are thrilled to welcome Buc-ee’s to Oak Creek, as they choose our growing city for their first-completed store in Wisconsin along the critical I-94 corridor,” said Mayor Dan Bukiewicz. “This exciting development not only strengthens our position as a key hub for travelers but also brings new opportunities for local businesses and residents. We look forward to seeing the positive impact Buc-ee’s will have on our community.”

Andrew Vickers, City Administrator, added, “Our Elected Officials have positioned the City for long-term success with strategic investments and an aspirational plan for Oak Creek to realize its full potential. We are honored that Buc-ee’s selected our City for its first expansion in the upper Midwest. Buc-ee’s represents an opportunity to not only bring a unique experience to the region, but to also showcase the Oak Creek community to hundreds of thousands of visitors annually.”Buc-ee’s, known for its massive convenience stores and iconic offerings, is equally excited about its expansion into Wisconsin.

Stan Beard, Jr., Buc-ee’s Director of Real Estate and Development, shared, “Buc-ee’s is excited to have the opportunity of adding Oak Creek to our expansion into Wisconsin. We have plan submittals, commission approvals and final city council decisions to be made before we can put a shovel in the ground, and that process officially begins with the January 28 Plan Commission meeting. The folks of Oak Creek have been a pleasure to work with, and we look forward to partnering with them for many years to come.”

Following the City Plan Commission meeting next week, two public hearings will be held. The first hearing is February 17, 2025, and the second hearing is tentatively expected to be held on March 18, 2025, when the Oak Creek Common Council will consider a Future Land Use Map amendment and a rezone. The Common Council anticipates a vote on those items that evening.
