Wisconsins Children Were Betrayed. DPI Must Act Now.
October 16, 2025
Wauwatosa, WI – Brittany Kinser, 2025 candidate for Wisconsin Superintendent of Public Instruction and current CEO of Kids Win Wisconsin released the following statement in response to a Capital Times investigation which revealed over 200 cases of sexual misconduct and grooming of children were shielded from the public.
The Department of Public Instruction must take responsibility and immediately present a clear, public plan for how it will ensure the safety of every child in Wisconsin’s schools, outline the corrective actions it will take, and commit to full transparency moving forward. There is no lack of proven best practices to follow, and if resources or support are needed to keep our children safe, they should be identified, requested, and implemented without delay.
We cannot afford leadership that is absent in moments like these.
I am sickened and heartbroken by what this investigation uncovered. The thought of any child being abused while those in charge fail to act is beyond comprehension. Those in power, the media and the public must demand accountability and refuse to look the other way.
Families have trusted our schools and state agencies to keep their children safe, and that trust has been shattered. There is no excuse for hiding abuse, no justification for shielding predators, and no tolerance for inaction when children are harmed.
Educators make a promise to every family that their children will come first. The Department of Public Instruction has broken that promise — and it must be restored. We have a responsibility to make it right and ensure that every child is safe, supported, and given the opportunity to thrive.
For our Wisconsin kids,
Brittany Kinser
