Wisconsin Democrats on the Legislature’s Final Floor Period

By - Mar 12th, 2024 06:17 pm

MADISON, Wis. — Today, Republicans in the Wisconsin State Senate adjourned the Legislature’s final floor period of the year, effectively ending the 2023 legislative session. Democratic Party of Wisconsin Communications Director Joe Oslund issued the following statement:

“Today, Republican politicians in Madison adjourned Wisconsin’s full-time legislature for the year—and it’s only March 12th. Before they left town, Republicans managed to find time to fire the governor’s appointees to the Board of Regents, launch more attacks on LGBTQ+ kids, and make partisan changes to our state Constitution. But the bigger story is what Republican politicians didn’t get done this session, such as expanding Medicaid coverage to cover moms and their babies for up to 12 months postpartum, expanding access to child care, and advancing bipartisan legislation to improve election administration. On issue after issue, Republicans fell far short of what Wisconsinites need and deserve, failing to deliver for working people and families, for our schools and neighborhoods, and for everyone in Wisconsin striving to build a better future.

“As Republicans head home to continue collecting a full-time salary for less than three months of work, they should understand that the next eight months won’t be the paid vacation they may have been hoping for—we will be relentless in reminding voters across this state about the many ways Republicans failed them this session.”
