Wisconsin Democrats on Elon Musk’s Hostile Takeover of the Wisconsin Supreme Court

MADISON, Wis. — In response to reports that the Elon Musk-funded Building America’s Future PAC had begun a massive ad buy in an attempt to influence the Wisconsin Supreme Court race, Democratic Party of Wisconsin Chair Ben Wikler issued the following statement:

“Elon Musk and Donald Trump are bankrolling Brad Schimel’s Supreme Court campaign because they know that Wisconsin’s highest court stands as a check on their lawless coup. Elon Musk wants Brad Schimel to rubber-stamp his assault on constitutional checks and balances so that he and Trump can give themselves sole power to enrich themselves at the expense of everyone else.

“Elon Musk and Donald Trump want a MAGA Supreme Court to ensure that maps are rigged to lock in power for far-right legislators; to overturn elections when they don’t like the results; and to suppress voters that don’t kiss their ring. Musk’s attempt to buy Wisconsin’s Supreme Court is a red alert that his attack on democracy isn’t limited to gutting the federal government. He wants it all.

“Brad Schimel is an extreme, right-wing politician who has cut shady deals for campaign cash his entire career, and now he has apparently cut the biggest and shadiest deal of his political life—signing on as a loyal foot solider for the Musk agenda. The Democratic Party of Wisconsin will do everything in its power to ensure that voters learn about the stakes, reject Elon Musk’s hostile takeover of Wisconsin’s Supreme Court, and elect Judge Susan Crawford.”
