MADISON, Wis. – State Sen. Leah Vukmir, R–Brookfield and state Rep. John Nygren, R–Marinette, released legislation Friday that would give law enforcement more tools to address the heroin and opioid epidemic facing Wisconsin.

“As a member of Governor Walker’s Task Force on Opioid Abuse, I am pleased to join my colleagues as we unveil legislation that builds on the Legislature’s efforts to combat opioid abuse in Wisconsin,” said Vukmir who has more than 20 years’ experience as a nurse practitioner. “It is critical that our communities have the tools necessary to combat the rising problems that stem from heroin abuse.”

The legislation focuses on providing law enforcement training grants targeted at preventing drug flow into Wisconsin, offers funding for programming to prevent substance abuse, and gives grants to counties for medical-assisted treatment. This legislation will strengthen our law enforcement efforts and save lives.

Additionally, the bill creates regional drug prosecutors to assist local District Attorney’s prosecuting drug crimes.

  1. Observer says:

You need to introduce a bill to legalize marijuana.

  2. Terry says:

Vukmir and Nygren are NOT leading the fight against opioid abuse. States that have medical cannabis programs have seen a 25% reduction in opioid related deaths, but not in Wisconsin because republican charlatans and liars like career politician Scott Walker, Nygren and Vukmir do not support such a common sense program supported by 90% of Americans now. No they would rather wage a war on little kids with epilepsy, cancer and other horrible diseases over non-psychoactive CBD oil than support true reform and actually help people suffering from opioid addiction. The only solution is to dump these bums like a bad habit in November 2018!!

    END CANNABIS PROHIBITION 2018!!

    DUMP VUKMIR!!
    DUMP WALKER!!
    DUMP NYGREN!!
    DUMP VOS!!
    DUMP FITZGERALD!!

    DUMP ALL REPUBLICANS 2018!!!

  3. Terry says:

Nygren didn’t give a crap about opioids, crack, heroin etc..until his daughter got hooked. These drugs have been ravaging poor and minority communities for decades but republicans didn’t care. They just said “lock them up!” until it affected them of course.

Just like republicans like Reagan were totally against stem cell research, until Ronald Reagan himself got Alzheimers and stem cell research was seen as a possible way to help HIM! Republicans are CHARLATANS!!

Further food for thought. Why is it almost always the conservative republican’s kid, the preacher’s kid, the law enforcement officer’s kid etc…that gets hooked on terrible drugs, alcohol and ruin their lives? Why?
Meanwhile, millions of loving, caring, common sense everyday hard working Americans are treated like second class citizens and criminals for their responsible adult use of cannabis.

This reefer madness must end in 2018!!
    Dump ALL Republicans!!
