VB Set for East Coast Clash at Georgetown and Villanova
Marquette faces Georgetown on Friday (Oct. 24) and Villanova on Saturday (Oct. 25).
The Marquette University volleyball team will head to the east coast for the final time in the regular season for a pair of BIG EAST matches.
The Golden Eagles will match up with Georgetown (11-10, 4-4 BIG EAST) on Friday and Villanova (15-4, 6-2 BIG EAST) on Saturday. Both matches will start at 6:00 p.m. CT and be broadcasted live on ESPN+.
LAST TIME OUT
The Golden Eagles split a pair of league matchups last weekend at the Al McGuire Center, falling to Xavier in five sets on Oct. 17 before sweeping Butler on Oct. 18.
Marquette swept Butler in just 72 minutes on Oct. 18. Natalie Ring led with 12 kills, four aces, and eight digs, while Hattie Bray added seven kills and eight blocks. The Golden Eagles hit .286 and held Butler to -.032 in a dominant 3-0 win.
HISTORY x OPPONENTS
MU and Georgetown will meet for the 30th time, with Marquette owning a 25-4 series advantage. Last season, Marquette swept both matches against the Hoyas.
The Golden Eagles hold a 26-4 series lead against Villanova and will meet for the 31st time on Saturday, with Marquette sweeping both meetings last season.
BIG EAST HONORS FOR BRAY
After being named the conference’s Defensive Player of the Week on Oct. 13, Hattie Bray earned a spot on the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll as announced by the league on Oct. 20.
Bray led the BIG EAST with 1.75 blocks per set over a pair of matches, adding 20 total kills on .293 hitting.
IN THE RANKINGS
Marquette currently sits at No. 37 in the latest RPI rankings, a drop of three spots from the previous week. Georgetown sits at No. 148 on the list, while Villanova is No. 46 in this week’s rankings.
RING LEADER
Outside hitter Natalie Ring has put on a dominant performance this season leading MU in kills with 296, which leads all hitters in the BIG EAST and ranks 33rd in the NCAA. Her 4.48 kills/set also leads the conference and ranks 20th nationally.
MARQUETTE MISC.
- Marquette ranks top-4 in the BIG EAST for hitting (.250), assists (12.06), blocks (2.36), and opponent hitting (.199).
- The Golden Eagles are third in kills per set (13.35) and continue to hit efficiently across the lineup.
- MU’s defense ranks second in blocks (2.57) and fourth in opponent hitting (.199).
- Natalie Ring leads the league in kills (4.48) and points (5.06) per set, both top-20 nationally.
- Hattie Bray ranks top-5 in hitting (.369) and blocks (1.46)
- Isabela Haggard averages 9.6 assists per set, second among BIG EAST setters.
- Adriana Studer ranks fifth in digs per set (3.64) and tied the league season high with six aces vs. Xavier.
