Madison, WI — Today, Democratic nominee for governor Tony Evers launched Conservationists for Tony, a group of bipartisan conservation, environmental and outdoor leaders supporting Evers’ campaign. Tony spoke on the importance of protecting the environment and preserving our natural resources alongside Dane County Executive Joe Parisi, former Board of Public Lands Commissioner Tia Nelson, and former Republican State Senate Majority Leader Dale Schultz.

“I’m excited and honored to be endorsed by bipartisan conservation leaders from across Wisconsin who understand how important protecting our natural resources is to our future,” Evers said. “For the past eight years, Scott Walker has put special interests and his political aspirations before people and our environment. As our next governor, I’ll bring everybody to the table to find sustainable, renewable solutions and to create a more independent, efficient, and clean economy.”

Evers’ was also joined at the event by Madison Mayor Paul Soglin, former Dane County Executive Kathleen Falk, former Department of Natural Resources Secretaries Matt Frank and Scott Hassett, State Senator Mark Miller, former State Representative Fred Clark, and numerous leaders of conservation, environmental and sportsman/woman organizations.

Evers’ plan to restore balance and commonsense to our natural resources management includes:

  • Making sure Wisconsin families have clean water to drink and clean air to breathe
  • Restoring independence to the Department of Natural Resources (DNR), so decisions are based on facts and public input – not on catering to campaign donors, politicians and special interests
  • Investing in our natural resources to create new outdoor recreation opportunities for hunters, snowmobilers and silent sports enthusiasts alike, while also protecting these resources for our future generations to use and enjoy
  • Investing in manufacturing jobs that produce renewable energy.

Fully funding our educational system so our kids have the critical thinking skills and understand science to make informed decisions about our future
“As a former science teacher, I’m not ashamed to say that I believe in science, I believe climate change is here, and I know we have work to do to mitigate and adapt to it in Wisconsin,” Evers said. “Here’s the bottom line: as your governor, I won’t bury my head in the sand or play politics with our future.”
