The two-year fight to strengthen the fight against reckless driving is almost across the finish line as Governor Evers signs bill

A new state law approved earlier this month by the Wisconsin Senate & Assembly – AB 078 / SB 65 (now Act 46) – allowing an ordinance to move forward that allows Milwaukee Police to impound a vehicle used in any reckless driving offenses whether or not the driver is the owner of the vehicle (and removes certain other restrictions on vehicle impoundment), was signed today by Governor Evers.

As the sponsor of the original Common Council file nearly two years ago and as the nonstop driver to get the common-sense change in state law across the finish line, this is great news – and positive news for better safety in the future on Milwaukee streets. I want to send my sincere thanks to Governor Evers for his support.

The Public Safety and Health Committee voted to recommend approval of the ordinance (Council file #251072) on October 23, and the Council will take it up for final approval on Tuesday (November 4).

The Assembly did what’s right. The Senate did what’s right. The Public Safety & Health Committee did what’s right. The full Milwaukee Common Council is now poised to do what’s right and approve this small piece of the ever-evolving puzzle in the fight against reckless driving in the City of Milwaukee.
