Even though I don’t agree with this racist tweet or my opponent’s past homophobic statements as she tried to get an amendment passed referencing LGBTQ community members as pedophiles or sex criminals. After meeting with my team, I am calling off the peaceful protest. How could my opponent be fearful of a protest when she allegedly protested at Mayfair Mall against Dontre Hamilton supporters and Black Lives Matter in support of officers and the officer that killed Dontre Hamilton?

Michelle Obama once said, “When they go low, we go high!” I’m going to follow Michelle Obama’s example and I’m choosing a higher path! I love District 18 and all of my constituents, and I just couldn’t believe someone with these views would be Elected to District 18. While I have been County Supervisor these past two years I have tried to work with everyone regardless of any differences to get the job done for you, District 18.

Unfortunately, I have to accept the fact that there is always a possibility that someone with these racist and homophobic views can be elected to the Public Office, which is a part of the process.

I hope that Deanna gets some racial and LGBTQ sensitivity training in the future. I would also like to see her apologize to Milwaukee County for her past racial and LGBTQ insensitivity. We have to choose love over hate!

I know many of you saw the interview, and I want to assure you that the Peaceful Protest was never about losing; it was always about the people of District 18 having representation free of Racist and Homophobic views. They only focused on making her look innocent and portraying me as the villain even though I said Peaceful Protest because of the racist tweet and Deanna’s insensitive views and statements towards the LGBTQ community. So the Peaceful Protest was never about losing; it was always about the racist tweet and her referencing the LGBTQ community as pedophiles and sexual criminals.

Again, I am publicly announcing that the peaceful protest against Republican Deanna Alexander has been CANCELED!

While in office, I did my best to move Milwaukee County District 18 Forward through strategic partnerships, proactive solutions, and community awareness. I will not stop serving all Milwaukee County District 18 Residents because I truly love working with you all. It has been an honor to serve and successfully lead District 18 through a pandemic. I would like to thank you District 18 for giving me the opportunity to serve these past two years we have accomplished a lot together!

Respectfully,

Russell Goodwin
