The Milwaukee Kitchen Cabinet to Host Second “Sherman Park Revival Celebration”
Local restaurant community organization celebrates Sherman Park rehabilitation with MPS students and families
MILWAUKEE – August 10, 2018 – The Milwaukee Kitchen Cabinet is teaming up with Milwaukee Public Schools for the second year in a row in Sherman Park this Sun. Aug. 12 to welcome Townsend students and families back to school with the “Sherman Park Revival Celebration.”
“Last year, the event was such a huge success, so we brought it back and expanded to serve a larger student population,” said Milwaukee Kitchen Cabinet Board Chairman and SURG Restaurant Group President Omar Shaikh. “We think it’s important for our restaurateurs to be involved in all areas of the city, and to be a part of the great work being done to rehabilitate this area.”
Some things will remain the same: free food, bounce houses, games, face painting, Brewers tickets, Bucks memorabilia and school supplies will be part of the celebration. The organization
was able to expand on quite a bit including the addition of a trackless train, the Brewers racing sausages and the Riverside Alumni Band who will kick off the event at 1:00pm.
“The rehabilitation of the Sherman Park area compliments our mission of revitalizing neighborhoods and increasing economic opportunities,” said Phoenix Investors Chairman & Founder Frank Crivello. “We think especially in the city of Milwaukee it’s important to continue to shed light on positive events like the program we’re partnering with the Kitchen Cabinet on.”
Another part of the event expansion includes three additional restaurants to serve attendees. SURG Restaurants, Point Burger Bar, and Sherman Park businesses including Funky Fresh Egg Rolls and The Juice Kitchen will serve food in the park on Sunday. Marcus Hotels has donated supplies for the Washington High School’s ProStart Culinary Program, who will prepare food to be served as well. SURG Restaurants was the sole vendor in 2017, serving 250 Carnevor steaks, burgers and more.
Other sponsors include the Wisconsin Restaurant Association, Associated Bank, Mueller QAAS, VISIT Milwaukee, Frontline Commercial Real Estate, Gruber Law Offices, Kohl’s, the Milwaukee Bucks and the Milwaukee Brewers.
The event will be held from 1:00pm from 4:00pm following a 12:30pm press conference with state and municipal legislators including Senator LaTonya Johnson, Representative Evan Goyke, Mayor Tom Barrett, Alderman Ashanti Hamilton, Alderman Khalif Rainey and Alderman Russell Stamper.
