Suspect in Marquis Champion homicide apprehended in Oklahoma
Statement of Alderman Mark Chambers, Jr. November 12, 2025
Today, law enforcement in Oklahoma City arrested Martell D. Haire, charged in a Milwaukee triple shooting that took the life of my 16-year-old nephew, Marquis Champion, on October 20. The senseless shooting took place near 79th and Hampton, and Haire fled immediately to avoid arrest and accountability.
Haire was charged by the Milwaukee County District Attorney’s Office with one count of First-Degree Reckless Homicide, Use of a Dangerous Weapon, two counts of First-Degree Reckless Injury, Use of a Dangerous Weapon, one count of First-Degree Recklessly Endangering Safety, Use of a Dangerous Weapon and one count of Possession of a Firearm by a Felon. If convicted, he could face 141 years, 6 months in prison and fined up to $250,000.
Getting the suspect in custody is a huge relief to me and to my family, as well as to the loved ones of the two young men who were shot. We want justice for Marquis and we also don’t want the suspect to be at large and in a position to harm someone else. We want to thank everyone in law enforcement who has worked on the case, and especially the U.S. Marshals and the officers in Oklahoma who captured Haire.
We want to also thank Crime Stoppers and Hupy and Abraham, who last week announced a $25,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of the suspect, and CBS 58’s Amanda Porterfield for her reporting on the case (spreading the word about Haire being a wanted homicide suspect).
