MILWAUKEE – Yesterday the County Board of Supervisors adopted a resolution authored by Supervisors Juan Miguel Martinez, Dyango Zerpa, and Ryan Clancy directing the Parks Department to petition the Wisconsin State Historic Preservation Office to nominate and register the Mitchell Park Domes on the National and State Register of Historic Places.

“Getting the Mitchell Parks Domes a historic designation is a long time coming,” said Supervisor Martinez. “It breaks my heart to see the state of disrepair this beloved Milwaukee institution is in. We need a plan to turn this around, and this plan should begin with the Domes being put on the National and State Register of Historic Places.

“Supporting Mitchell Park and the Domes is a matter of both preserving the legacy of this public space and of equitably investing in a community often starved of resources,” said Supervisor Clancy. “Mitchell Park is a destination for the whole county, and I’m glad to see us working towards a plan that will reflect that.”

Listing the Domes on the National Register of Historic Places is the gateway towards eligibility for National Park Service administered federal preservation tax credits. The Wisconsin State Historic Preservation Office has determined that the Domes are eligible to be listed on the register.
