Supervisor Weishan Says Transit Committee Took Correct Action on Taxis
Says Approval of 10 New Airport Taxi Permits Benefits Riders, Free Market
Milwaukee County Supervisor John F. Weishan, Jr., said today that the Transportation, Public Works and Transit Committee took a positive step forward in approving his proposal to increase the number of taxis allowed to pick up passengers by 10 at General Mitchell International Airport. The committee passed his proposal 6-1 and the measure now moves to the full County Board.
The measure would increase the number of taxis currently serving the airport to 60.
“The committee’s approval is a positive first step in making the airport more convenient for taxicab riders,” Weishan said. “It also benefits the free market by increasing competition, and I am pleased the committee agreed that Milwaukee County residents want more choices in their airport ground transportation.
“I am hopeful that the full board will approve this resolution at its next meeting on Feb. 5, because more competition is not only good for taxicab riders, it’s good for the economy.”
