County Executive David Crowley Condemns Illegal Federal Arrest of Milwaukee Community Leader Salah Sarsour
MILWAUKEE – Milwaukee County Executive and gubernatorial candidate David Crowley released the following statement after federal agents followed, surrounded, and arrested a lawful permanent resident and Milwaukee community leader without explanation or justification:
“What happened to Salah Sarsour is an affront to everything Milwaukee stands for. A man who has called this city home for over 32 years, a lawful permanent resident, a community leader, a neighbor, was followed from his home, surrounded, and dragged into federal custody without any explanation or justification.
This is unacceptable, illegal federal overreach, and it is endangering our communities.
Let’s be clear about what happened here: Agents did not stumble upon Mr. Sarsour. They followed him and monitored him based on his profile and the community he leads. That is religious profiling and government surveillance of a faith community happening right here in Milwaukee, and this administration expects us to simply accept it.
We will not. We stand with Mr. Sarsour, and our Muslim neighbors across the state.”
