Supervisor Vincent, Board Honor Milwaukee County Mental Health Advocates for Mental Health Awareness Month
MILWAUKEE – Today, the Milwaukee County Board of Supervisors honored several Milwaukee County Mental Health Advocates for Mental Health Awareness Month. Supervisor Kathleen Vincent issued the following statement, commending the groups:
“Mental health impacts all of us in some way, and it is time to break down the stigma associated with mental illness,” said Supervisor Vincent. “I am grateful for the support I received from my doctors, friends, and support system at home. My journey has taught me the importance of mental health treatment and care, and I am committed to being an advocate and a positive example for those facing similar challenges.”
Advocates for Mental Illness Treatment Reform (ADMIRE): Formed by individuals concerned about mental health service transitions, ADMIRE has facilitated improvements and consistently advocated for enhanced care for those in crisis.
Mental Health Emergency Center (MHEC): A collaborative initiative providing 24/7 crisis mental health services, MHEC represents a transformative investment in Milwaukee County’s mental health infrastructure.
Kenyatta Yamel: As Chair of the Comprehensive Community Services (CCS) Recovery Advisory Committee, Yamel has empowered many in their recovery journeys.
Anthony Turner: A Certified Peer Specialist at Wisconsin Community Services (WCS), Turner has significantly impacted residents’ lives by connecting them to sustainable resources.
