Supervisor Taylor Reacts to a Recent Proposal to Repair O’Donnell Park
Sup. Taylor Critical of O'Donnell Park Task Force Proposal
Milwaukee, WI – Milwaukee County Supervisor Steve F. Taylor today issued the following statement regarding a recent proposal that would repair O’Donnell Park and create a task-force charged with recommending aesthetically pleasing changes to the plaza:
“Last month, instead of giving the hard working taxpayers an early Christmas present by selling O’Donnell Park to Northwestern Mutual, some of my colleagues stuffed their stockings with a $6.5 million bill for deferred maintenance. Now three of these Supervisors who opposed the sale have awakened from the holiday ether and are trying to collect payment.
“We had an exceptional plan in place, a plan to sell an under-utilized and deteriorating property to an outstanding community partner, responsibly pay down our general obligation debt and invest the remaining $5 million in our parks.
“Instead of wasting their time creating a task force to develop a vision for this parking structure, these Supervisors should be getting down on their hands and knees, apologizing and begging Northwestern Mutual to reconsider the original proposal.”
