Supervisor O’Connor Denounces Election Interference and Voter Suppression
MILWAUKEE – In response to yesterday’s incidents of disruptive behavior by election observers at Glendale polling locations, Supervisor Anne O’Connor of District 1 emphasized the importance of maintaining the integrity of the election process:
“While I respect everyone’s right to voice concerns, doing so can’t interfere with our local and state election commissions’ processes as outlined in state statute. We all want to be able to cast our votes without disorder or attempts at suppression. Our poll workers, election officials, and laws guarantee free and fair elections and protect our fundamental right to vote,” said Supervisor O’Connor. “We have to ensure the integrity of our elections, by deeming any actions that undermine this process to be unacceptable. Our local government, county government, and established election procedures are designed to uphold democracy and protect every citizen’s right to vote. I would urge all citizens to respect the procedures in place and allow our dedicated poll workers to carry out their duties without interference. I will remain in contact with the Milwaukee County election commission, led by County Clerk George Christenson, and the municipal clerks in my district to ensure that our elections are run smoothly and orderly, as we stand firmly against any efforts to disrupt this vital process and continue to advocate for fair and accessible elections.”
