Supervisor Logsdon Commends Approval of Amendment Advancing Boerner Botanical Gardens’ Fence Project
MILWAUKEE – Yesterday, Thursday, November 9, 2023, the Board of Supervisors adopted Milwaukee County’s 2024 Budget, which includes an amendment to fund the design plans of a permanent fence at Boerner Botanical Gardens. Supervisor Patti Logsdon, a longtime advocate for this fence, issued the following statement:
“I am absolutely thrilled to see the Board of Supervisors’ support for the construction of a permanent fence at Boerner Botanical Gardens. My heartfelt thanks go to the incredible community for their steadfast support and advocacy for this project, and to the Parks Department who will make this project a reality.” said Supervisor Logsdon. “This fence will not only protect the plantings from potential harm but will also ensure the longevity and fiscal viability of the Boerner site. I look forward to seeing this project come to life, and to see the Boerner Botanical Gardens continue to serve our community as a cherished green space for generations to come.”
In 2022, SupervisorLogsdon authored a budget amendment directing the Parks Department to provide a report to the County Board recommending funding sources for the planning and design phase of a fence at Boerner Botanical Gardens. A permanent fence will help protect garden plantings from deer grazing, potential vandalism, and ensure visitors pay the admission fee which supports the fiscal viability of the Boerner site.
The Adopted Budget will now be sent to County Executive David Crowley for final approval. If the County Executive issue any vetoes, the Board of Supervisors will reconvene on Thursday, November 16 at 1:30 p.m.
