MILWAUKEE – Today the County Board of Supervisors allocated more than $1.5 million in American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds to engage community partners in providing additional resources, services, and supports to children and families in Milwaukee County.

“I am elated and grateful that we were able to allocate needed funds to supportive services for our youth,” said County Supervisor Priscilla E. Coggs-Jones. “Educational programs and approaches such as these stimulate the minds and fulfill the attention of our future scholars and leaders, setting them up for success wherever their lives may lead them. These funds build on the incredible work our Department of Health and Human Services and community partners are already doing, such as the ‘Pop Spots’ MCTS bus shelter mural program from the city’s Office of Early Childhood Initiatives.”

The project will grant five awards per year, up to $100,000 each, to organizations that provide early childhood and family support health and educational services beginning August 1, 2022 through December 31, 2026.

This project aims to implement:

  • Improved healthcare access, social emotional development, and mental health supports
  • Intergenerational programs in partnership with Milwaukee County Aging and Disabilities Services
  • Parental and caregiver support
  • Coaching for early childhood professionals and service coordinators
  • Evidence-based early literacy in everyday spaces
  • Support for DHHS staff and contracted providers to complete the Infant Mental Health Capstone through UW-Madison Key Partners

Families who will benefit from the services, resources, and programs will take part in selecting the organizations that will facilitate the projects through a participatory budgeting process.
