Supervisor Bielinski to Introduce Resolution Supporting Milwaukee Public Schools and Advocating for Adequate State Funding

MILWAUKEE – Supervisor Justin Bielinski, a former paraprofessional for the district, plans to introduce a resolution in support of Milwaukee Public Schools (MPS), as they work to rectify their financial reporting and accounting practices. The resolution emphasizes the importance of retaining a democratically elected local school board to oversee MPS operations.
Supervisor Bielinski issued the following statement:

“Milwaukee Public Schools face significant financial challenges, and it was clear that a change in district leadership was warranted. However, dismantling local governance of the district is not the answer. We must empower our educators and administrators by providing the necessary resources for our students while ensuring accountability and community involvement through our democratically elected school board. I strongly oppose any measures that undermine the MPS Board or shift governance to the state, other governmental levels, or private entities. Despite facing inadequate funding and insufficient staffing, MPS’ talented and dedicated educators consistently strive for excellence. Any attempt to take over governance of MPS would disrupt the progress our teachers and students are making.”

The resolution is being circulated among the County Board of Supervisors and is expected to be brought before the full County Board soon. Supervisors Juan Miguel Martinez, Steven Shea, and Caroline Gómez-Tom have signed on as early co-sponsors.
