MILWAUKEE, WI (May 6, 2024) – WISN 12 has received the prestigious ‘Station of the Year’ and ‘News Operation of the Year’ awards from the Wisconsin Broadcasters Association (WBA). In total, WISN 12 was recognized with 22 awards by the WBA, including 11 first-place awards, 6 second-place awards and 5 third-place awards. WISN 12 has held the ‘Station of the Year’ designation for nearly a decade, being awarded with the top honor for 9 out of the last 10 years.

“Year after year, WISN 12 is recognized as the local leader for hard-hitting journalism, quality programming, and impactful storytelling,” states Jan Wade, president and general manager of WISN 12. “The WBA awards are a recognition of that and for all the outstanding work by the entire WISN 12 team.  We are grateful and very humbled by these honors!”

Through its on-air coverage, WISN received first-place awards in categories including morning newscast, evening newscast, continuing coverage, spot news, news writing, hard news/investigative, series/documentary, and live on-scene reporting. The station also earned first-place wins across other categories like use of social media, image promotion, and topical promotion.

“We’re extremely honored to be recognized by the WBA for our commitment to journalism in southeastern Wisconsin,” says Matt Sinn, news director of WISN 12. “It’s reaffirming to know that WISN 12’s relentless approach to breaking news, weather, political coverage, and in-depth investigations don’t go unnoticed.”

WISN 12 achieved WBA awards for its important local coverage of some of the year’s most significant news events. These include the killing of a Milwaukee police officer, the GOP presidential primary debate in Milwaukee, the parking garage collapse at Bayshore Mall, and severe weather involving a dangerous winter storm, to list a few.

“Receiving this recognition from the WBA and having the continued trust of our local communities helps inspire and drive our work,” adds Wade. “I want to extend my appreciation to everyone at WISN 12 – news, engineering, promotions, production, sales, office staff, and everyone at our station. These awards demonstrate that we really do have the best team around!”
