Statement on the Arrest of Milwaukee County Judge

MILWAUKEE–Agents from the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) arrested Judge Hannah Dugan, a sitting Milwaukee County Circuit Court judge, at the Milwaukee County Courthouse this morning. In response to this arrest, Rep. Robyn Vining (D-Wauwatosa) released the following statement:

“While we wait for more information, I am deeply concerned about what appears to be the undermining of the independent judiciary, the eroding of the right to due process, and the fear that is tearing through our communities. Our communities are less safe when courthouses are feared, when witnesses are afraid to testify, and when victims are scared to attend the very hearings that are meant to ensure them justice.

“I want safe communities, an independent judiciary, and a country where people are confident their rights will be protected by the very people who swore to serve them. I will continue to protect the constitutional rights of my constituents.”

Rep. Vining represents the 13th Assembly District, which includes Elm Grove, and parts of Wauwatosa and Brookfield. For more information visit Rep. Vining’s website here.
