Statement on stadium financing package proposal
From Common Council members: José G. Pérez, Marina Dimitrijevic, JoCasta Zamarripa, Michael J. Murphy, Lamont Westmoreland, Mark A. Borkowski, and Scott Spiker
With the recent announcement of a legislative proposal pertaining to American Family Field, we are optimistic that this is the first step toward keeping this important major league asset in the state of Wisconsin.
This city is still paying $1.1 million annually in debt services for the last stadium package and will continue to do so through 2029.
With the local sales tax tied exclusively to pension obligations and protective services, any reduction of shared revenue directly impacts all residents of the city, many of whom do not have the means or desire to attend a game as evidenced by the 22% resident attendance rate.
We are hoping that as the process moves forward the Republicans and Democrats will truly play ball to limit the financial impact as much as possible.
