Statement on recent ICE arrest in the 8th Aldermanic District
Alderperson JoCasta Zamarripa April 10, 2025
On Tuesday, April 8, yet another ICE arrest was made in Milwaukee. I am upset, disheartened, and concerned about the ramifications that may follow.
My constituents, many of whom are part of the Latino community, are doing nothing more than attempting to be responsible citizens. They are neighbors, friends and parents just like anyone else. Yet, it is a scary proposition that these people are essentially being pushed underground and discouraged from attending court dates, communicating with law enforcement, visiting hospitals, calling 9-1-1, or interacting with the government for fear of being arrested for simply existing. What does this mean? A society built on fear where the quality of all our collective systems are worse off because people won’t, or are afraid to, participate.
Whether you are a 5th generation U.S. citizen, or an undocumented immigrant, you will feel the pain of this family whose father was plucked from their lives just as he was trying to get ready for work.
