Yesterday, Governor Tony Evers announced several new appointments and re-appointments to the Wisconsin Technical College System (WTCS) Board of Directors, the oversight body for Wisconsin’s 16 technical colleges. Among the new appointments was Dr. Michael Rosen, a Milwaukee Area Technical College (MATC) legend.

Dr. Rosen taught Economics at MATC for 29 years, led AFT Local 212, the faculty and staff union at MATC for 14 years, and previously served on the Wisconsin Technical College System Board, appointed by Governor Jim Doyle.

Dr. Rosen also started the FAST (Faculty and Students Together) Fund to provide MATC students with financial support. Just last year, the FAST Fund provided $800,000 in emergency grants to keep nearly 3,000 MATC students working toward technical, family-supporting employment.

This is all to say that Dr. Rosen is an outstanding choice to serve on the WTCS Board. He understands the value that technical colleges provide, and knows what those students need to succeed. I have no doubt he will continue to uplift students across the state in this new capacity.
