Statement of Governor Tony Evers on the November Election Results
MADISON, Wis. – Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers released the following statement on the results of Tuesday’s election:
A record more than 3.4 million Wisconsinites cast their ballots and made their voices heard whether by mail, dropbox, or at their polling place – that’s something we should all celebrate. Once again, we showed that Wisconsin has safe and secure elections, and I want to thank our hardworking election administrators, local clerks, poll workers, U.S. Postal Service workers, volunteers, and so many others who helped ensure the November election ran smoothly.
As a result, this next legislative session, I am hopeful we will finally begin to see a Legislature that is more cooperative, more collaborative, and more responsive to the will of the people of this state. Together, I believe we can build upon our work to invest in public education at every level, support farmers, veterans, and small businesses, address our generational workforce challenges, protect access to healthcare and reproductive freedom, and support working families across Wisconsin.
Wisconsinites also re-elected Senator Tammy Baldwin. Tammy has always put the people of Wisconsin first, taken on the tough fights, and been a critical partner in moving Wisconsin forward. I could not be more grateful that she’ll continue serving Wisconsin in the U.S. Senate.
This year Wisconsin once again saw one of the closest presidential elections in the nation. Vice President Harris ran a historic campaign that energized people in every corner of our state. Although the outcome wasn’t what we hoped for, I was proud to stand with her and I know she will continue to be an important leader in our party. I believe a peaceful and respectful transfer of power is a cornerstone of our democracy – we should all work to protect this shared value.
Wisconsin is a purple state. For many Wisconsinites, the presidential election results were a victory, and for nearly as many Wisconsinites, a loss to grieve.
My promise to the people of Wisconsin has always been to be a governor who works for all Wisconsinites and does the right thing when it matters most. That’s a promise I will continue to keep.
I still believe there is more that unites us than divides us. I still believe in our Wisconsin values of kindness, empathy, compassion, and respect, and in our ability to come together even in the darkest of times as neighbors helping neighbors.
No matter what the future might bring, Wisconsin’s motto demands we go, as ever, forward. And that is exactly what we will do, together.
Tony for Wisconsin
